Task 1 IELTS Writing Model - Cambridge 8 Test 3 – Production of Cement and Concrete

The diagrams show the stages and equipment used in the cement-making process, and how cement is used to produce concrete for building purposes.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Model Answer:

The flow Chart describes the production of cement, which is one of the raw materials of concrete and the process of making concrete for construction purposes.

According to the first diagram, it can be seen that a multitude of tools are needed to produce cement. First, limestone and clay are poured into a crusher, from which comes the powder. Before being heated in a rotating heater, the powder is delivered to a mixer to make sure it is evenly distributed. Then, the product that comes out of the rotating heater is put into a grinder. The outcome of which is cement, which then gets then gets packed into bags, ready to be transported.

The production of concrete is less tedious compared to making cement. Cement, water, sand and gravel which are the raw materials need are poured in the concrete mixer at the percentage of 15%, 10%, 25% and 50% respectively. After being spun in the concrete mixer for a period of time concrete is created.

Overall, the production of concrete is a simple 1-step process while making cement has several steps in a production line.
